Electric golf carts are a great way to get around the course without having to walk, and they can be a lot of fun to drive. But like any battery-powered vehicle, they require regular maintenance to keep them running smoothly. That’s why we here at Under the Sun Golf Cars have provided some tips on how to maintain your electric golf cart battery.

Check Your Owner’s Manual

Before you get started, review your owner’s manual for your electric golf cart. This will provide specific tips for your model, which may be a little different from what we suggest here. Every model is unique and it’s important to know what to expect before you start.

Keep the Battery Charged

Electric golf cart batteries should be charged after every use. Be careful not to overcharge, which can damage the battery (see your owner’s manual). Also make sure you’re using a charger designed for lead-acid batteries, or whatever type of battery your model may use. Avoiding fast chargers can prevent long-term damage.

Cleaning Battery Acid

When you notice corrosion on the battery terminals of your electric golf cart, it's time to clean them.

First, shut all vent caps and cover all electric parts. Use a tablespoon of baking soda, mixed with a cup of hot water, and an old toothbrush to scrub away the corroded areas. Spray away the mixture with cool water and then dry it with a gentle cloth.

These are just a few at-home steps you can take to prolong the life of the battery running your electric golf cart, but some days you might just need professional help. When that day comes, contact our service department at Under the Sun Golf Cars in Lake Gaston, Virginia, serving Bracey. You can also find us in Youngsville, North Carolina.
